On March 19, due to extreme weather and strong gusts of wind, the MSC Alexandra, a large container ship operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), suffered a mooring line breakage incident while berthed at the Port of Mundra in India.

The vessel was docked at Berth CT3 when strong winds snapped its mooring lines, causing the ship to lose control and collide with a terminal structure under construction within the port area.

The strong winds also caused several heavy containers in the yard to be blown over and roll, resulting in damage to some of them.

As of March 22, the MSC Alexandra remains anchored in the Port of Mondra and has not yet resumed sailing.

The collision may cause delays in the MSC Alexandra’s subsequent port calls.
